Fashola Preaches Peace, Forgiveness, Unconditional Love As Musilms Celebrate Eid-El-Maulud

Feb 3, 2012 - As Nigerian Muslims join their counterparts worldwide to celebrate this year's Eid-el-Maulud, Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Friday called on Nigerians to seek the face of God for the restoration of the values of peace, love and brotherliness among the people.

In his goodwill message signed by Mr Lateef Ibirogba, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Governor Fashola noted that the occasion is the commemoration of the birth of Prophet Mohammed through whom the Almighty Allah bestowed the Islamic religion, a religion of peace, on the world.

The Governor observed that from its origin, the Islamic faith has resonated in teachings of peace, harmony, unconditional love, forgiveness and championing the cause of the weak and the oppressed as well as the vulnerable adding, "It is on this pedestal that I wish to enjoin all Nigerians to use the occasion of this year's Eid-el-Maulud to reflect on affairs in our dear country and the problems confronting her, especially those bordering on the peace and security of life and property of her citizens".

"As we celebrate this auspicious occasion, therefore, let us renew our faith in our nation and implore the Almighty Allah to restore to us those values that place high premium on human life, love of neighbour and sharing even as we ventilate our faith in the unity of our dear country and the possibility of her taking her proper place in the comity of nations", the Governor further urged.

Governor Fashola thanked Lagosians, "for leading from the front in this all important crusade, especially at this point in time, by your exemplary demonstration of harmonious and peaceful co-existence in this melting pot of cultures, where you have chosen to turn the multi-ethnic , multi-religious and multi-tribal nature of our State into a source of strength".

Wishing all Muslim brothers and sisters in the State a happy Eid-el-Maulud celebration, Governor Fashola also implored all Nigerians to imbibe the lessons of the life of humility, sacrifice and sharing that the Holy Prophet lived.
