Democracy Capable Of Delivering Progressive Governance
…Says Fashola as he hands over 4 projects by Ejigbo LCDA

Jan 27, 2012 - Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Friday handed over four projects embarked upon by Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area, Mr Kehinde Bamigbetan, stating that democracy is capable of delivering progressive governance to the people.

Governor Fashola spoke in Ejigbo during the handing over of the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Primary School, the Professor Yemi Osinbajo Court House, the modern public toilet and Babatunde Raji Fashola Primary Health Care Centre which was renamed by the Governor as the January 27 Primary Health Care Centre.

The Governor said the initiative by Mr Kehinde Bamigbetan clearly signifies to the people of Lagos State that all Local Governments and Local Council Development Authorities have demonstrated their appreciation for the mandate and votes of the people of Lagos and that it will not be taken for granted.

"I see this initiative as a response to my charge and also to the charge by the Lagos State House of Assembly that all Local Governments and Local Council Development Authorities in Lagos State must attain the full utility of their undoubted capacity".

"If one LCDA has not only championed the activities of the State Government to ensure that construction begins on the Ajao-Ejigbo Link Bridge and the adjoining roads in the way Mr Kehinde Bamigbetan has done and in addition issued a 4-in-1 statement in one day of his commitment to serve the people of Ejigbo",Governor Fashola stated.

Continuing, the State Governor added that in handing over the four projects, the Ejigbo LCDA Chairman has thrown a gauntlet, expressing the belief that the 56 other LCDAs and LGs will respond in equal, if not greater measure.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area, Mr Kehinde Bamigbetan said the Council believes that it should take ownership of the BRF brand by domesticating it in Ejigbo as one of the shining stars of the people's life and this explains why the Primary Health Care Centre was named after him.

He added that the Council decided to construct the health centre because it realizes that the Governor is very passionate about Primary Heath Centres and has always been impressing it upon the Chairmen that they must make it possible for people not to have to visit tertiary hospitals for ailments like malaria and headache.

The Chairman also disclosed that the Council has constructed a Court House dedicated to former Attorney General, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and is very hopeful that the Council will get the approval of the State Government for the Court House.

He commended Professor Osinbajo for the intellectual work, zeal and expertise which he brought to the litigation on the continued existence of the 37 LCDAs, stating that but for the outcome of the litigation he might not have an office to function in as a Chairman.

Governor Fashola who thanked the Council for naming the Primary Health Care Centre after him, however declined the offer and renamed the PHC as the January 27, Primary Health Care Centre since it is being commissioned on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the 2002 Ikeja Bomb Blasts.
