Let’s Consolidate Gains Of Democracy, Fashola Tells Nigerians At Easter
Apr 3, 2010 - As Lagos Christians join their counterparts in the country and worldwide to celebrate Easter, the State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has called for consolidation of the gains of democratic governance, saying “we must work on those things that unite rather than divide us as a country”.
In his Easter Message to Lagosians, Governor Fashola said Nigerians must now, more than ever before, imbibe the virtues of the season which, according to him, include love, forgiveness and perseverance as exemplified by Jesus Christ adding, “In a season when we seek forgiveness, let us also forgive others”.
“Indeed, if Easter is the foundation of hope that Christ will return, then let us not lose hope in our ability to rise again in our capacity to redefine our common humanity”, the Governor said.
He advised, “Let us not take for granted God’s infinite wisdom in bringing us together to live in one world and one nation irrespective of our diverse faiths, cultures, tribes and tongues as well as traditions”, urging that such diversities should be turned into a source of strength.
Describing Lagos as “a model of harmonious and peaceful co-existence; a melting pot of all religions, cultures, tribes and tongues”, Governor Fashola exhorted Lagosians, “I urge you to continue to uphold this tenet even as your Government spares no effort daily to deliver to you a Brighter, Rewarding Future”.
