New AIG Zone 2 Pledges To Further Reduce Crime Level In Lagos
Feb 23, 2010 - The newly posted Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police, Zone 2, Mr. Azubuko Udah, has pledged to further reduce the crime level in Lagos State just as he commended the State Government for adequately equipping the State’s Police Command.
Udah who spoke Tuesday at a Cocktail Party hosted in his honour by the Lagos State Government at the Lagos House Marina, said he and his colleagues will work assiduously to ensure the achievement of the aims and objectives, not only of the Police Force but also those of the Government in power to maintain security in the State.
He said he sees his posting to Lagos as a challenge to bring out the best in him adding that with the men and material already on ground, he would ensure that crime is reduced to the barest minimum.
“I am going to redouble my efforts. Where there has been low rate of crime, I will ensure that it is brought lower. I am confident to make this pledge because I can see that the tools to work with are made available. I will ensure that together we will bring security in this State as a whole”, the new AIG said.
Thanking the State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and the Government of Lagos State for the reception and “all the people that are working together to make Lagos State safe and secure”, Udah declared, “I look forward to making sure that we do our best to provide security for governance because it is only under full security that good governance can thrive”.
In his short remarks at the occasion, Governor Fashola welcomed the new AIG whom he noted was also part of the committee that gave birth to the establishment of the State’s Security Trust Fund, adding, “It is now your duty to strengthen that institution”.
Noting that Peace and Security constitutes the anchor on which national development can be hinged, the Governor declared, “You know that there is so much work to do here and the only reward you can look forward to is more work”.
The Governor prayed God to give the new AIG “all the necessary support you need to do your job so that by the time you hand over the baton, Lagos will be safer than you met it”, adding that much is expected of the police boss.
The Governor thanked the members of the State Security Committee, including the former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Musiliu Smith, for their initiative in establishing the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, as well as all those who are contributing to ensure the security of the State, including the traditional rulers adding that with the cooperation of everyone, the security of life and property in the State is assured.
Also present at the occasion were the Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Mr. Jide Sanwo-olu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Sola Oworu and other members of the State Executive Council, top ranking police officers, traditional rulers and other top government functionaries.
