Dipo Dina: “It’s A Most Tragic And Painful Separation”, Says Fashola

Jan 27, 2010 - Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Wednesday described as a most tragic and painful separation the sudden transition of the 2007 Action Congress gubernatorial candidate in Ogun State, Otunba Dipo Dina.

Otunba Dipo Dina was shot dead on Sunday night, January 24 2010, in Ota, Ogun State by yet to be identified gunmen while he was reportedly returning from a political rally in the town.

Governor Fashola, who spoke while on a condolence visit to the Abacha Estate, Ikoyi residence of the slain politician, said he is yet short of words to express his pains at the violent exit of the AC chieftain.

He noted that the deceased had played his part in the struggle to uplift the nation and better the living standard of Nigerians, assuring the struggle will not be allowed to die until final victory is achieved.

Praying God to grant eternal rest to the soul of Otunba Dina, the Governor declared, “My brother, rest in peace. Your struggles are over, but remain rest assured that we will not give up until the Nigeria you envisaged is achieved and the people you so dearly wished to serve are pacified and prospered.

Earlier, in his condolence letter to the widow of the deceased, Mrs. Adenike Dipo Dina, the Governor expressed shock at the gruesome murder saying the AC chieftain was a man who has, in the spirit of the Action Congress, pursue justice with doggedness, forthrightness and integrity.

“I feel deeply horrified by this most dastardly act and a sense of personal loss at the death of Dipo Dina”, the Governor lamented, noting that losing a husband, a father and a bread winner in any circumstance could be painful and is doubly so when a man of peace gets cut down violently.

Governor Fashola, however, urged Mrs. Dina and the other members of the Dina Family to take solace in the fact that the former AC gubernatorial candidate lived a fulfilled life which, though short, was remarkable and worthy of emulation.

“We are one with you in prayers, in this moment of sorrow and pain, that God, in his infinite mercy, will comfort you and give you the strength to bear this irreparable loss” , Governor Fashola said.
