Let’s Imbibe The Spirit Of Sharing, Caring For The Vulnerable

Dec 23, 2009 - My Dear Lagosians,

It is once again Christmas, the season when Christians across the world commemorate and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. I congratulate Christians and indeed all Nigerians, both within and outside Lagos, at this period for living in harmony, peace and with love which are the defining attributes of the season, in spite of our religious and ethnic diversity.

Over the years, the lessons of Christmas and Jesus Christ whose birth became the reason for this season resonate in teachings like unconditional love, forgiveness of sin, grace, sharing and championing the cause of the weak and the oppressed as well as the vulnerable. These teachings bear underscoring and should not be lost on humanity.

As we celebrate this auspicious season of fun and joy, therefore, I urge all of us to imbibe the spirit of sharing and giving as taught and practiced by Jesus Christ who shared and gave even His own life while he lived among men. Let us give and share love with each other in our families, in our homes, in our places of work and business and everywhere we interact with our fellow men. Let us care for the vulnerable and give unconditional love.

Let us also renew our faith in our nation and hope in the possibility of lifting it up to become one of the greatest in the world. It is achievable. It is possible only if we believe and continue to ventilate our faith in the oneness and

unity of this nation. It is achievable if we continue to live in peace and harmony. Let us all find strength rather than weakness in our diversity.

I thank all Lagosians, all the people who have chosen to make Lagos their homes from diverse backgrounds for living in peace and harmony. I urge you to continue in this spirit as we strive to make life even better in the years ahead.

Merry Christmas.

Eko O Ni Baje.
