We Are Determined To Provide Best Of Medicare – Governor Fashola
Jul 17, 2009 - Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Friday paid an unscheduled get well visit to a member of the State Executive Council who is recuperating from an ailment at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Diagnostic Ward at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), describing his use of the facility as a reassurance of the capabilities of the hospital as a referral hospital.Governor Fashola who spoke in a chance meeting with a news correspondent who accosted him after the visit which also saw the Governor paying similar get well visits to other patients in the Ward said the LASUTH is one of the best equipped referral hospitals in Nigeria.
He added that it is the preoccupation of the present Government to ensure that costs of overseas travel are gradually reduced as it seeks to ensure that residents of the state and Nigerians do not have cause to travel overseas anymore for any form of medical check up but get the best of medical attention here.
Governor Fashola also appealed that patients should bear with the medical personnel in the hospital who are trying their best in the face of the influx of patients, adding that currently the hospital contends with patients from as far as other countries of the West African sub-region.
He said the LASUTH as a hospital boasts of several up to date diagnostic and radiological equipment like CT SCAN, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), fluoroscopy, mammography, general x-ray and ultra sound equipment and fully automated, sophisticated but robust laboratory equipment such as blood chemistry analyzers, spectrophotometers and hematology analyzer.
Governor Fashola assured that his administration would spare no efforts in ensuring that the hospital continues to maintain the high standard which has won recognitions and accolades for it globally.
The Governor met, during the visit, patients who had been transferred from various well known hospitals within and outside the State including one who said that the expert handling his case currently works with LASUTH hence his follow up treatment there.
It would be recalled that within the last 25 months of its existence, the administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) had commissioned the BT Ward Complex and Dental Centre as well as the BT Health and Diagnostic Centre at LASUTH. This is in addition to the six Maternal Child Care Centres now nearing completion in different parts of the State.
