XMAS: Let This Be A Season Of Renewal And Hope, Fashola Urges All

Dec 24, 2008 - Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Wednesday urged all Christians to strive to make the Christmas period a season of renewal and hope.

Governor Fashola in his Christmas message to the people of Lagos said the Christmas period should be one for renewal of our commitment to our maker, love for fellow human beings and faith in the nation as well as a determination to make it a better place.

Said he: “Let us also renew our hope in the possibilities of a world where all human beings live at peace as diverse children of one Almighty Creator despite our religious, ethnic and cultural differences”.

Governor Fashola also enjoined everyone to reflect on the symbolism of Christmas which is essentially about the birth of a divine being that came to save his followers through the personal example of love and sacrifice.

The Governor urged all Christians to adopt this same spirit of sacrifice and love, which is the corner stone of all great religions, and do their best in their own little corner of the world to extend love to all.

The Lagos State helmsman emphasized that in the same vein everyone should sacrifice his own interest for the sake of the other person and to save his community and neighbourhood from the menace of hatred, selfishness and intolerance.

Governor Fashola also thanked all Lagosians of diverse religious beliefs, multi ethnic and cultural backgrounds for living harmoniously together in peace and tolerance.

In his words: “I urge us all to continue in this spirit even as we continue the steady transformation of our state into a world class modern Mega city that functions safely, prosperously and securely”.

While using the occasion to rejoice with all Christian brothers and sisters both within and outside Lagos on the occasion, the Governor wished everyone a very fulfilling and pleasurable celebration.
