EXECUTIVE ORDER (NO EO/116 OF 2008)
TO: 1. HONOURABLE COMMISSIONER, PHYSICAL PLANNING & URBAN DEVELOPMENT
2. SURVIYOR GENERAL OF LAGOS STATE
PRESERVATION OF THE BRAZILIAN QUARTERS
There is the need to preserve the historical heritage of certain areas of Lagos even as we embark on new and modern physical development. For this purpose, areas like Lafiaji, Bamgbose and Campos with rich Portuguese and Brazilian architecture readily comes to mind.
By virtue of the powers vested in me, I hereby order for the purpose of preserving our rich history and culture especially through architecture that:- the areas popularly known and called Moloney Street areas towards King George V Road, Campos area, Igbosere Road, Lafiaji, Bamgbose and other areas abutting Tinubu to be more specifically delineated by the Surveyor General of Lagos State and the Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development or any person for the time being charged with responsibility of planning and urban development shall be designated as a listed area for the purpose of preserving the Portuguese and Brazilian Architecture.
That all proposed future development in the aforementioned areas must as a matter of policy and for building approval purposes, reflect, retain and preserve the Portuguese and Braziliam architecture as much as it is possible and practicable to do so in that area.
